Direct flight from Rovaniemi to Antalya was implemented in order to develop the tourism activities between Alanya and its sister city Rovaniemi of Finland.

165 tourists came to Antalya Airport by the mutual work implemented by Alanya Municipality and Rovaniemi Municipality.The main aim is developing touristic activities between two cities by increasing those test flights and to making them regular flights.
The local agency of Lomamatkat Tour,Poloarwest which took the Finnish Tourists from Antalya Airport to Alanya,gave a banquet to the tourist at historical Alarahan Restaurant.
Alanya Mayor Hasan Sipahioglu,Mayor of Rovanieni Mauri Gardin,Vice Chairman of Municipal Council Reijo Sulasalmi and Member of the Council Antti Kuulasmaa participated to the dinner.Alanya Mayor Hasan Sipahioglu declared that Alanya was not only a touristic city but also a place where 20 thousands of people from 75 different countries prefer to live permanently.He added that Alanya has always taken over with its tolerance and said another important connection with Rovaniemi was about the Santa Clause because Rovaniemi was known as the hometown of Santa Clause and Santa has another home in Demre,too. Sipahioglu emphasized that direct flight from Rovaniemi to Alanya would convert the existing sistership relations to touristic and commercial relationship and he said that they aimed to accelerate tourism by increasing and regularating those flights.He added that Gazipaşa Airport was about to open and said ” I hope that you will come to Gazipaşa Airport which is 30 minutes away from Alanya” Sipahioglu gave brochures,booklets and various local presents in Finnish Language as a present. Mayor of Rovaniemi expressed his pleasure from being in Alanya.Gardin told that Economy of Rovaniemi was also based on tourism like Alanya and winter tourism was very busy in Rovaniemi.For this reason,the citizens of both cities would make visits to each other in suitable times for themselves and contribute to tourism. Gardin declared that 165 tourists came to Alanya and it would increase in following days.Folk dance shows were presented to the finnish guests after the speeches.
