Alanya Mayor Hasan Sipahioglu remarked in his statement to AA reporter that all the preparations were completed for the bicycle park to be built in town and the bidding will be concluded on Thursday regarding the set up of the system.
In Alanya, a town of Antalya, bicycle parks will be built by the municipality in order to enable people to ride bicycles free of charge. Alanya Mayor Hasan Sipahioglu remarked in his statement to AA reporter that all the preparations were completed for the bicycle park to be built in town and the bidding will be concluded on Thursday regarding the set up of the system. Sipahioglu indicating that at first the project will be realized with 150 bicycles added “According to the project we will place bicycle parks to 20 spots or more in town. Depending on the region’s structure 3-5 bicycles will be placed in these parks. The bicycles will be kept locked and when required could be taken. The person who took the bicycle could ride to wherever he wants and will deliver the bike to the nearest park spot in the same way he borrowed. Thus people could keep on by riding after the walk and will keep on walking whenever he wants by leaving the bicycle.”
The ones who would like to ride a bicycle should obtain a card from the municipality that provides to unlock the bicycles at the parks and which will be given on monthly or yearly basis with minor charges. Sipahioglu underlined that the fees were never on profit basis and only to provide the card owners to take certain responsibilities. The bicycles will maintain a chip on and this will enable to monitor all the actions from the satellite. Thus the thefts will be prevented. Sipahioglu saying that this practice will be a first in Turkey added “This practice exists in many European countries. By means of this practice we aim at minimizing the traffic jam as well as providing people to make sports. We believe that many people will turn towards bicycles instead of using unnecessarily private cars in the city center. The mass transportation and the increase of interest to bicycles will relief the traffic significantly.” Mayor Sipahioglu said that after the bidding on Thursday, the parks will be formed shortly and free bicycle practice will start.
