Necessary marriage documents

 

For Turkish nationals:

1. Original Identity cards of both persons wishing to marry and a photo of both persons. (A driving licence is not valid as an ID.)

2. Passport photos: Five passport photos from both persons; biometric photos are not accepted. The passport photos should not be older than six months

3. Certificate of marriageability (this is issued by the local registration office).

4. Thalassemia Test, Hepatitis B - C, VDRL and Aids Test (Elisa) from family health centres, hospitals or private labs.

The health certificate with photo is issued by the health centres

Note: Persons over 65 years of age may only obtain a doctor's certificate of health in the state hospitals.

 

Further information:

1. (a) Persons who have reached the age of 17 must, in order to marry, bring their parents, both with their IDs, or bring the written consent of their parents, which must be certified by a notary.

b) Persons who have reached the age of 16 must present a certificate of permission from the family court.

2. Widowed and divorced women may not marry again earlier than 300 days (10 months) after the date of divorce or the date of decease of the husband

3. Identity cards of widowed or divorced persons must be updated, i.e. after the divorce or death of a partner

4. Women who wish to keep their maiden name must indicate this before the marriage ceremony.

5. At least two witnesses should be present at the wedding ceremony.

n.b. Father and mother cannot be witnesses.

6. Married persons who do not live in Alanya must obtain a certificate of marital status /marriageability from their place of residence

 

For foreign nationals:

 

1. Original birth certificate stating first and last name, date of birth, place of birth and names of father and mother.

(2) A certificate of marriageability, and a document stating that there are no obstacles preventing the marriage. The family status must be single, divorced or widowed. In the case of a divorce, a document with the date of the divorce is required.

4. Passport photos: Five passport photos for both persons; biometric photos are not accepted. The passport photos should not be older than six months.

5. Thalassemia Test, Hepatitis B-C, VDRL and Aids Test (Elisa) from family health centres, hospitals or private labs.

The health certificate with photo is supplied by the health centres.

n.b. Persons over 65 years of age receive this health certificate in the state hospitals only.

 

 

Further information:

 

 

1. In the case of EU citizens, birth certificate, marriage certificate, marriageability certificate and certificate of permission to marry must be available in all relevant languages.

2. For citizens from other countries, birth and marriage certificate, as well as marriageability certificate, must be marked with an apostille. A certified and notarized translation of the apostille must also be submitted. If there is no apostille, the documents must be confirmed and certified by the Turkish Consulate in the home country or by their home country consulate in Turkey. Following this confirmation by the consulate, the documents must then be certified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Turkey.

 

Note: If both persons who are wishing to marry do not understand Turkish, a person must be present during the ceremony who can translate.

There should be at least two witnesses present at the marriage ceremony.

 

n.b. Couples must register the marriage together.
